There is an oracle that tells the future. “Glamour” is a special fey magic and is mentioned throughout all the books.
Items are enchanted and some are said to have bits of humans’ souls attached to them. The cat explains to Meghan that because “science cannot prove the existence of faeries…we do not exist.” The cat refers to humans as the “children of man.” The cat also tells Meghan to pray for a miracle. In the first book, Meghan’s mom is at a church meeting. There is an “in-between” world that bridges the human world with the Nevernever. Once forgotten, Faery’s fade and dissolve into nothingness. This is a faery tale and most of the content focuses on the life of a Faery and not a human. Ash is not your typical misunderstood “bad boy,” and as the reasons for his behavior are revealed, the reader can’t help buy root for the guy. The friendship between Puck and Meghan is positive and it’s clear Puck will go to the ends of the earth to make Meghan happy (He actually does at one point). Meghan is a strong female character that is not afraid to help those she loves and to do the right thing. This is an interesting make-believe world where anything can happen ~ Promise! Oh wait! You are not supposed to make promises. The last few books are from Meghan’s human brother Ethan’s point-of-view. There is an interesting love story woven into the fight to save the Nevernever. Other notable Fairy Tale characters are included throughout the series like The Big Bad Wolf and the cat from Alice in Wonderland. The series is based off of several of the characters in A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. In fact, she is a princess, who soon becomes a Queen. The series follows Meghan Chase as she discovers she is not quite human after her younger brother is kidnapped. However, I am confident what I have listed will give you the general idea and will help you determine if this series is appropriate for your teen.
